ABOUT ANGIE

BBFD Director, Coach, Mentor, Facilitator & Consultant

Yes, I do a lot, life is too interesting to only do one thing!

I bring my skills from one business area to another.

I look forward to working with you.

I am the director of BBFD. I love what I do and I work with a smile. I started my career in the UK as a social worker in the charity sector and managed a pioneering team working with young people experiencing sexual exploitation. In 2000 I began working in the humanitarian and development field and with more than 20 years of experience I am a senior practitioner in the sector. I know our sector well and dedicate my utmost energy to everything I do, whether it is child protection, safeguarding or coaching. More recently, I have become an accredited action learning set facilitator working with groups through powerful questions to identify actions.

I have worked with development and humanitarian programmes in Asia-Pacific, Middle East, West, East and Southern Africa and Latin America, Caucuses and Europe.

I build organisational credibility quickly and effectively with high levels of participation from children and communities, colleagues, NGOs, INGOs, government and UN bodies.

Finally, but importantly, I identify as a Black woman with intersecting identities of sexuality, disability, nationality, education and class through which I navigate a complex set of power and privileges.

“Angie is an exceptionally talented consultant with a wide range of skills, knowledge and abilities that make her ideally suited to a variety of assignments. She has outstanding technical skills in working directly with children - she demonstrates a complete understanding and commitment to their rights, and displays total respect and sensitivity in her approach. Angie also has a wealth of management and organisational capacity, able to think in creative, analytical and structured ways to develop solutions and strategic approaches to complex tasks. In addition, she has a great work ethic, a warm, natural and appealing personality, and a very positive 'can do' attitude that means she is a highly motivated achiever as well as a pleasure to work with."

Feedback from my MSc Coaching and Mentoring peers

What do clients say about Angie?

"Working with Angie has been inspiring to say the least. Her way of working has taught me a lot. She is super organized and keeps track of activities in a very orderly manner and well documented. She has an eye for details! Nothing escapes her or is left for ‘may be’. On top of this, she is always ready to lend a hand or an ear during challenging times. Great quality to have both technical competence and human touch!"

Semhal Getachew, Ethiopia National Associate, Safeguarding and Resource Support Hub

"I have worked with Angie for over twenty years, in the UK, Asia and Africa. She is a consummate professional, passionate about the welfare of girls and boys, and dedicated to building systems that protect them from harm. Angie is a thoughtful and articulate facilitator, empowering people to find their own solutions, and brings dynamic methods and positive energy to even the most challenging processes."
Guy Thompstone, Director, Child Frontiers

"I have had the pleasure of working with Angie, first in 2013 while I was with Save the Children and she facilitated a training on case management for Child Protection Network (CPN) in Nigeria and more recently in the FCDO funded Safeguarding Resource and Support Hub (RSH). Angie is a wonderful lady to work with, being a capacity development professional with expertise in Protection/Safeguarding which is also my career path. You can’t miss the laughter which helps in calming nerves and putting one at ease. Angie is very coordinated and organized, I have enjoyed knowing her and have approached her to be my coach 😊"
Oge Chukwudozie, Nigeria

"Comhlámh contracted Angie to facilitate workshops on child safeguarding and developing code of conducts and accessible reporting systems for our network of international volunteer sending agencies. We really appreciated her expertise on and analysis of safeguarding issues at so many levels, her understanding that change needed at cultural level as well as the setting up of systems and ensuring compliance; and her willingness and skill in developing training to meet the specific needs of organisations and networks. Her facilitation style enabled an in-depth discussion of some difficult and challenging issues but held the group process."

Sandra Byrne, Comhlámh, Ireland

"You are a great listener – not just to the words people say, but to the words they don’t say. The latter is a real skill that puts you on another level in terms of your ability to get the most out of participants."

Gillian Mann

“Great facilitation skills – real ability to ensure all in the group felt included and supported, and safe to be vulnerable with each other.”

Martha Nelems

Angie facilitated with warmth and empathy. She helped us create a safe and confidential space in which we could freely share our views and feelings.

Claire O'Kane

"Really excellent facilitation throughout. Very good at directing us to stick to the methods in a nice way. Asked very insightful questions or made very insightful comments, which often made me think about things in a totally different way."

Emily Delap

"Thank you again for everything Angie. A year has passed, but I can say I understand even more now how important those sessions were: Talking to you gave me the confidence to make decisions that were actually right for me, not based on a need to prove myself following a year of being belittled by my supervisor."
